This event kicks off our fall schedule each year with food and fun for everyone. Usually held in late August, we gather on a Sunday evening for an informal meal which is always topped off with delicious “Call Hall” ice cream from K-State. Sometimes it’s fried chicken, other times it’s a pig roast, but it always great food. There is a variety of activities and games—notably the cake walk where everybody tries their luck to take home a sweet treat.
Thanksgiving is truly a “Congregational” holiday, started by our Puritan and Separatist ancestors. So on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we celebrate a traditional Harvest Potluck dinner. We have a lot of great cooks in our church, and this is always a chance to sample their best efforts.
Elegant Evening is both a fellowship event and a fundraiser. It only comes once every few years, but when it comes, we pull out all the stops. The evening begins with hors d oeuvres, wine, and other beverages, continues with a formal sit-down dinner, and concludes with an amazing auction of everything from homemade pies to weekend getaways. For those wanting to spend a little less, there is always a variety of dinner and party options sponsored by members—one of the favorites being the Daiquiri Party.
This fellowship activity combines film, theology, and, of course, popcorn. At each event, we gather to view a film together and then discuss the “faith story” that it tells. Some are big Hollywood box office hits. Other films are small independent offerings you may not see anywhere else. Reel Theology—it’s cinema for the soul.
