Advent & Christmas 2016
If you've been looking for a place where you and your family can sing Christmas carols, experience the story of Jesus's birth, and find space to slow down and create space for the Spirit to move in your life, we'd love to welcome you.
This season we will...
create space for those who are having a Blue Christmas,
sing songs of cheer with our friends from Bethel AME,
continue to serve a hot meal every Sunday evening,
Await the Already, as we journey through the gospels,
begin gathering supplies to fill backpacks for refugees,
host the community for World AIDS Day,
prepare our hearts for our upcoming study Understanding White Identity,
and gather 'round the Christmas tree for a Cozy Christmas
Christmas isn’t always happy. For those who are grieving, the holiday season can be excruciating. On December 22nd, we will gather on one of the longest nights of the year to sing quiet songs, make space for grief, and remember the coming of Christ without all the tinsel and reindeer. This service is a part of the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting and we will invite parents who have lost children to light a candle in memory of their children.
Christmas is on a Sunday! We will gather at 10:45am around the Christmas tree in historic Pioneer Hall. Tasty treats will be provided and you can sip your coffee during worship. We will sing carols and listen for the Word through children’s picture books. Come if your PJs if you’d like. Kids, bring your toys so you can play. It will be a laid-back, intimate setting for giving thanks as we welcome the Christ Child on Christmas morning.
Dale Stearns will lead our Advent book study, which will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays from Nov. 27 through Dec. 18. Awaiting the Already: An Advent Journey through the Gospels takes us on a tour through the Gospel narratives, showing us what parts of the Christmas story come from which Gospel, and helps us to recognize that each Gospel writer invites us to encounter a fresh experience of the birth of Christ.
