Advent & Christmas 2018
If you've been looking for a place where you and your family can sing Christmas carols, experience the story of Jesus's birth, and find space to slow down and create space for the Spirit to move in your life, we'd love to welcome you.
This season we will...
honor stillness and quiet at Living Room & Taize Worship,
continue to serve a hot meal every Sunday evening,
support activists as they find ways to connect with purpose,
explore our faith in adult and children's classes,
enjoy yoga+donuts with the community,
create space for grief and longing,
rejoice during the annual Christmas Pageant,
host the community for World AIDS Day,
warm our hearts with Handel's Messiah.
World AIDS Day
Saturday, Dec. 1 at 6pm
We are honored to host Manhattan's service for World AIDS Day again
this year. The service will feature music, reflection, a candlelighting
ceremony. A great opportunity to slow down, remember those we love and light a
candle in the darkness for HOPE. We'll have a brief reception with snacks and
warm beverages after the service.
Sustaining Activism for the Long-Haul
Friday, Dec. 14 from 5:30-9:00pm
How do we connect to what is ours to do in this world? What can we hold on to while the world swirls around us? How do we stay engaged in advocating for justice for the long haul....without burning out? How might we find joy in the work? We will engage these and other similar questions at this gathering.
We begin the evening with a simple supper and use group work and individual reflection to help each participant connect to their sense of deep purpose. The evening will also include an opportunity for brief guided or silent meditation, qigong, community acupuncture, or learning about spiritual direction.
Kids ages three through 6th grade are invited to participate in our Christmas pageant, which will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 16 during worship. There will be three rehearsals: Sunday, Dec. 9 at 9:30am, Saturday, Dec. 15 from 10:00am-noon, and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 9:30am. The Saturday morning rehearsal will include some advent crafts and is a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to “drop and go” to enjoy a quiet morning to yourself or run holiday errands. If you have any questions about the pageant, please contact Brandy.
