Ministries of Hospitality

Building Use

As stewards of a beautiful and historic building, we are committed to a ministry of hospitality, sharing our space with other fellowship and service groups who share our mission.

Many community not-for profit groups and service organizations use our building for meetings and events. Groups such as P-FLAG, Riley County Preservation Alliance, and Kansas Equality Coalition hold regularly scheduled meetings in our facilities. If you want to learn more about scheduling a meeting or suggested donations to cover utility costs, please contact the church office.

Weddings

We welcome couples who seek to celebrate their marriage in the community of faith to be married at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Currently, you must be a member to be married at First Congregational UCC. We understand the essence of marriage to be a covenanted commitment that has its foundation in the faithfulness of God’s love. The marriage ceremony is the joyous occasion on which two people unite in the mutual exchange of covenant promises.

Marriage ceremonies are services of worship, and the full participation of the congregation is encouraged through the use of scripture, hymns, and other music. A portion of the time spent in consultation with the pastor will be devoted to planning a celebration that is both personal and meaningful. Family and friends may be invited to share the leadership of worship by reading scripture, offering prayers, or in other ways.

In keeping with our commitment to be an Open and Affirming congregation, we welcome both samegender and opposite-gender couples to celebrate their covenant commitment to one another. While we recognize that in the state of Kansas there is not yet equal access to the rights and responsibilities of marriage, it is our intention as a church to treat all couples who seek the recognition and discipline of Christian marriage equally. Such services may be called by various names such as wedding, marriage, holy union, or covenant blessing ceremony.

Our wedding policy booklet will answer many questions you may have about our facility and arrangements. Click here to read our wedding policy booklet. If you have other questions, please contact the church office.

In order to schedule your ceremony at First Congregational, you will need to meet with the pastor to begin the necessary arrangements. You can make an appointment through the church office.
