Lamenting the Victims of Residential Boarding Schools: A Follow-Up Educational Event
Monday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. at ECM (904 Sunset Ave)

with hopes to livestream on the ECM at K-State Facebook page

As we begin Native American Heritage Month, join members of the K-State and Manhattan community for an important conversation about our shared history. Dr. Debra Bolton (Ohkay Owingeh/Diné/Ute) and Dr. Melissa Poll (Settler) from the K-State Indigenous Faculty & Staff Alliance will lead a conversation to help us all learn more about the atrocities committed against Indigenous children in residential boarding schools and the wider context of genocide and white supremacy surrounding these acts.

Dr. Bolton is Director of Intercultural Learning and Academic Success for KSU.  She studies health and well-being in refugee populations and in historically excluded identities in terms of equity and belonging.  Also, she studies identity development in underrepresented and dominant populations.   Dr. Poll's research looks at equity in Indigenous/Settler collaborations on Turtle Island.  Much of her work takes place in Canada.  She freelances as an Equity and Inclusion Dramaturge, too.

Service of Lament for Victims of Residential Schools

10/11/2021

Remembering the Victims of the Residential Schools: A Worship Service of Lament
Sunday, October 24th, 5:00 p.m. at the Leadership Studies Amphitheater (rain location: LS 126)
Picture
Join us as we lament the many deaths of Indigenous children and other atrocities committed at residential schools.  This service will be led by Dr. Debra Bolton (Ohkay Owingeh/Diné/Ute) and area clergy. We welcome people of any faith background at this service, which will be grounded in the Christian tradition as we seek to invite followers of Jesus to confess the sins committed by our churches and recommit ourselves to dismantling systems that cause violence. There will be a follow-up educational event led by members of the Indigenous Faculty and Staff Alliance on Monday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m. at ECM (904 Sunset Ave) to help us all learn more about the wider context in which these acts of genocide occurred.

We will gather at the Staley School of Leadership Studies Amphitheater on K-State's campus. Parking is available just across the street since it's the weekend. Rain location is LS 126 (masks required indoors).
